Las Vegas, NV

At Changing Smiles Pediatric Dentistry in Las Vegas, NV we offer a range of preventative dental services and treatments. Each is designed to protect the health of your children’s gums and teeth.

Infant Dental Care

It is suggested that children visit our pediatric dentist within the first six months of the eruption of their first tooth. By their first birthday, children should have been seen at least once. These visits play an important role in the dental development and wellness of each child. They also encourage children to become familiar with the sights, sounds, and people they will encounter in our office.

These visits also give our dentist an opportunity to monitor the progression of baby teeth as they are coming in. Early visits allow our dentist to recognize potential concerns so that an early treatment plan can be made.

Early visits also allow the opportunity to educate parents on the best methods of cleaning little gums and teeth, while also providing a discussion about the importance of fluoride and a healthy diet. Our dentist will be able to answer any questions parents may have and provide the answers parents are looking for. These visits are very similar in nature to the well-baby visits that your child has with his or her pediatrician.

What Does Preventative Dentistry Look Like for Older Kids?

Babies under the age of 12 months may not yet have a need for preventative measures. Children who are older may benefit from preventative treatments that include a professional dental cleaning and fluoride treatments. They can also benefit from getting sealants applied to the surfaces of their molars in order to prevent cavities.

Addressing a Dental Emergency

Despite our best efforts, a dental emergency can become a reality at any time. Whether your children are athletes or not, they could be at risk of injury to their face from a fall or an accident. The loss of baby teeth, before they are due to fall out naturally, can be potentially concerning. Baby teeth hold the space needed for the permanent teeth when they grow in. The premature loss of baby teeth may impact the alignment of the permanent teeth.

It is important to call our office if teeth are knocked out of place, whether they are baby teeth or adult teeth.

Any damage sustained to a tooth should be a reason to make an appointment to be seen by our dentist, Dr. Meads. This could include cracks or chips. Even without pain, these concerns can potentially provide bacteria an easy way to get into the tooth.

Any signs of infection, such as an abscess and fever, should be a reason to call to be seen.
